    About the role

     

    Due to the growth of our business, we are in a position to recruit a new Head of People for Octopus Investments to partner the group heads of and senior investment professionals.

     

    The Head of People will work closely with the business to deliver cyclical HR people processes and work with the senior management and other HRBPs to refine and improve these on an on-going basis. They will also be responsible for managing and delivering organisational change within their business areas, which will involve contributing to the development of new programmes/projects and initiatives.

    They will also be expected to input into the broader HR and People strategy whilst contributing to building the profile of the function

    Responsibilities

    Essential Job Functions

     

    • Build strong relationships with business areas in order to understand people priorities and support their implementation and be accountable for the creation of People Business Plans.
    • Work closely with the business to manage cyclical HR processes, including the bi-annual performance process, including performance score moderation, and the annual employee engagement survey.
    • Build the capability of managers through strong coaching and mentoring for them to maximise potential and consistently raise the bar on performance.
    • Manage all employee relations issues within the business area supporting and guiding managers to handle disciplinaries and grievances.
    • Partner with managers within their business area to proactively manage employee engagement.
    • Provide advice to the business area on organisational design and re-structuring, supporting the implementation and embedding of changes.
    • Work closely with the other HRBPs to ensure consistency of approach and a seamless delivery of the HRBP model.
    • Contribute to broader HR strategy as part of the HR leadership team

    Qualifications

    Job Specific Experience/Technical Skills/Abilities

     

    • Extensive HR experience with people management experience.
    • Excellent relationship building and communication skills with employees of all levels.
    • Commercial and results focused, with the ability to quickly get up to speed on business strategies and understand how people plans need to align with these.
    • Ability to work in an environment of change and ambiguity at times
    • Ability to positively challenge and influence managers within the business and partner them in delivering business results.
    • Experience of HR business partnering, ideally within both a large complex company and a smaller, fast moving entrepreneurial company.
    • Agile and flexible with a flair for value-add project work outside of business as usual.
    • Ability to quickly acquire an understanding of the business in order to build credibility with managers and leaders and contribute to business discussions.
    • Ability to positively challenge and influence managers within the business and partner them in delivering business results.
    • Some experience of leading, designing and implementing organisational change in partnership with the business.
    • Employment law expertise to guide and support managers in employee relations issues and terminations.
    • Strong organisational and planning skills; able to multi-task and work under pressure remaining professional and calm.
    • Professional and engaging manner. Empathy yet resilience under assertive challenge.
    • Humility and the ability to remain grounded, see things from others point of view and roll your sleeves up as and when required to support colleagues in meeting their commitments.
    • Ability to quickly acquire an understanding of the business in order to build credibility with managers and leaders and contribute to business discussions.
    • Degree level educated or educational equivalent and ideally CIPD qualified. 
    • Must be curious and seek to instil automated and digital solutions wherever appropriate
    • Must be comfortable in using technology and leveraging digital applications and media platforms
