This role will lead Octopus’ Investments media and broader corporate communications strategy. The role will report into Octopus Group’s Head of Corporate Communications and sit as part of the Group communications team.  Octopus Group is the umbrella brand that sits above all the Octopus businesses to ensure finance, HR, marketing and IT are being managed consistently. Working closely with Octopus Investments’ marketing team, the person in this role will be responsible for building and protecting the business’ brand, providing strategic counsel and support across the business and demonstrating how PR can add value and drive business outcomes. They will also be responsible for delivering excellent press office services to journalists and our internal stakeholders. They will need to enjoy working in a fast paced environment, multi-tasking, working autonomously as well as enjoying being a team player. They need to be confident and comfortable managing crisis communications and presenting to senior management. 


Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills are essential. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate their ability to prioritise, project manage campaigns and work to tight deadlines. You will be responsible for identifying any reputational risks to the business early on to ensure messaging is managed effectively across all communication channels. 


You will need to be able to hit the ground running supported by a strong press contact book of personal finance, investor and adviser trade journalists. The person in this role needs to love thinking creatively about how to make the business relevant to its target press, as well as maintaining our share of voice in our market leading product areas.

Process and prioritise all the information available within Octopus to develop winning media strategies. Conduct proactive and reactive media relations in support of Octopus Investments’ corporate reputation. 

 

Service: works efficiently and communicates in a professional manner. Manages multiple tasks and documents processes and procedures. Demonstrates a collegiate attitude to other teams (e.g. helping out beyond the point of personal return; responding to requests for general assistance).  Works to relentlessly high standards. 

 

Thinking what’s never been thought before. Respond quickly to changing work demands. Generates and screens ideas (own and others) and manages their implementation. Thinks of creative ways to make Octopus Investments’ story relevant to our target audiences and media.  
 

Qualifications

  • Extensive agency/in-house communications experience devising and implementing communications goals, strategies and tactical PR campaigns and programmes that advance business goals and strengthen corporate reputation.  
  • Ability to set a strategic course for PR and communications alongside an overall brand position. They need to be able to think strategically, but stay on top of tactical execution. 
  • Ensures integrated communications approach, considering all audiences and communications channels. 
  • Ability to articulate key messages, write copy and guide senior managers to deliver on message press and influencer coverage   
  • Ability to deal with people at all levels and demonstrable stakeholder management skills 
  • Provide communications counsel to internal stakeholders on both short- and long-term challenges and opportunities, ensuring they are strategically employed in the public domain 
  • Excellent media relation skills and press office management, capable of working to a high quality level and at pace. An exceptional ability to multi task and meticulous attention to detail 
  • Strong contact book of national personal finance, investment and adviser trade press  
  • Manage budgets and deliver clear, results-focused reports 
  • Positive, tenacious and can-do approach. Proactive and energetic approach to communications  
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, and willingness to 'pitch in' as required in a rapidly growing organisation 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills 
  • Develop effective outreach programmes to additional corporate stakeholders such as industry representatives and third-party groups 
  • Liaise with Group Marketing to ensure consistency of company-wide communication
  • Must be curious and seek to instil automated and digital solutions wherever appropriate
  • Must be comfortable in using technology and leveraging digital applications and media platforms
